It's a Very Sad Day For Me

***This post has been edited to reflect the changes that Stampin' UP has made to revise the new Independent Demonstrator Agreement. They have already come back and said they were too harsh on some points***

I am incredibly sad and frustrated right now (and yes I have a major migraine even) and I am going to try to explain to you why this is so.

Stampin' UP has amended it's Independent Demonstrator Agreement, which is the contract that all demonstrators have to sign. Normally, I am OK with all of SU's decisions, but today, I am NOT ok with the decisions that they have made. I try my best to be a good little demonstrator, and I will continue to do so, which means MAJOR CHANGES are to come unfortunately :O( I try my best to be open and honest with you so here goes. . .

Because of their new decisions, I will no longer be allowed to promote any other similar products to SU besides SU -either on my blog, on forums, anywhere on the internet. This has FAR REACHING consequences for me personally, and you as my lovely SPCCers. . . it definitely changes things here at SPCC and things over at my personal blog Scrapmaster's Paradise. . .

This means:

  • I have sponsors lined up at SP Color Combos through the end of the year, BUT after that, I will be providing the prizes from then on out. No more sponsors :O( This means the prizes will be smaller than some of the bigger prizes we've been having, but I will still keep it good!
  • I will have to change more depending on what I hear back from SU.
Changes for my personal blog:
  • I will no longer be able to be my horrible little enabling self :O) I know I like to enable, and some of you enjoy the occasional enable (i-top, sales, great online finds. etc) well I can't do that anymore!
  • The In The Spotlight section will go on as planned starting Thursday, but I will only be fulfilling my commitments to the companies I have already worked with. I will not be taking on any new spotlights and once these are finished, I will no longer have spotlights. I am really disappointed that I won't have this special spotlight segment for you for very long, but we will make the most of the spotlights when we do have them :O)
  • I will be removing MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY (get the point) links from my sidebar. . . it will be all SU (aside from the commitments to my DT's and spotlight companies) I will still be leaving friends because aparently that is now OK.
  • I will continue on my current design teams until my terms are up, but then I will no longer be permitted to be on design teams under the new SU rules. Bye, bye, dreams of glory!!!
  • I will still be using all my great products, whether they be SU or not, but I won't be able to tell you all the juicy details about where to find them. I can give basic identifying info like the name of the item and brand, but nothing more! Sorry. . .
The new rules don't go into effect until October 1st so I have one month to make some of the more immediate necessary changes. Nothing drastic is changing yet. I am **hoping** that this is all just a big joke or misunderstanding or a nightmare, but I am going to play by the rules. I have been in contact with SU in regards to keeping my current commitments so they should at least be kind enough to let me keep my promises to those I've given them to, or I may have to make different changes than the ones listed.

Happy Crafting,

Oh I am sorry to hear that this is going to mess up how you do all the things you do...such as your enabling!
I hope the adjustment isn't too hard to do for you!

I guess I'd better read up myself. I'm primarily a hobbiest, but if these rules are going to keep me from pursuing my dreams, I may have to make a big change myself! I love S/U, but some of their rules are unreasonable! I'm sorry about all of this Samantha! Sheesh!

So sorry Samantha.
Sending you HUGS

I hate when companies take all the fun out of working for them ... that's horrible ...

I'm sorry to hear this. I agree, I hate that they are taking all the fun out of working for them by making so many restrictive rules. Not fair and I hope they change it!

It sounds like S/U's made alot of changes- no wonder you have a migraine! Hopefully- it's just a big misundertanding...

Hey, maybe SU can be your prize sponsor?? That way everybody wins!

I wrote you on your other blog, but I thought I would write here too. I am so sorry this is affection you so much. I hope they open their eyes and see how much these rules are affecting people. Please let me know if I can help in any way here at SPCC.

I am so sorry that Big Bad SU is so threatened by the Energizer Bunny of scrap. As much as you love being a part of SU, maybe you should consider parting ways with them. They appear to be just another big company which cares far more about money and control than about the creativity of all of the little people who make them big. I know that I will now struggle to look at SU in a positive light. Don't let "The Man" (or in the case, maybe "The Woman") keep you from becoming the creative inspiration that you are meant to be.

Seriously? They won't ALLOW you to be on any DTs? That just doesn't seem right at all. Does that also mean you can't publish anything if you choose if it included anything other than SU? They are doing themselves a SERIOUS disservice by preventing people from being on DTs. Don't they realize the advertising opportunities of having their demos on DTs? There are A LOT of really talented SU demos who are on DTs. I wonder how many of their best people will walk away from SU and if that will make them stand up and take notice. Wow. Not cool.

If they stick to this decision to make all of these changes then I am sure this will have a huge affect on lots of crafters....one way or another. I sure hope that they reconsider and let us all just have some fun being creative. Hope everything works out for you and the other SU demos.

I am very disappointed in Stampin' Up! for doing this. I've been a demo for a couple of years, but mainly a hobby demo. I will have to read up on it, but I will likely be discontinuing my demonstratorship and will take my business elsewhere. Sorry for you and how this will impact your blogs and challenges. Hang in there :)

Well....this just is just not right! And I just signed up....will have to rethink whether I will do anything with it or not! I may just take my goodies and run! I am so sorry Sam...we'll talk soon when you feel better!

Wow! IMHO ... How dare they assume they have a right to tell you what you can and cannot do on your own personal blog! They should be over the moon Thankful you are using their product and promote it so openly. As for the Dt's ... You'd think they would have enough sense to see how this IS a positive thing for their company. Hello, FREE advertising!!! I'm so sorry for you and all the other ladies now in your position. Stand up for yourself!!! Don't let their greed and selfish behavior rob you of the things you love. If it were me, I'd drop them like a hot potato!!

this is really bad. You have always been such a huge inspiration to all of us. You seem to be one of those wonderful people who makes things happen. I hope it all works out,and that you make the right decision about what you want to do next, the best of luck.

Sam - you must be devastated - why has SU gone all strict!!! Surely they should be embracing all things scrappy and stampy - there is so much to go around!!

Wow! I have been an SU demo for 6 years and have become so frustrated with the fact that they can't understand how ALL companies can compliment each other. I placed my LAST order with them this month and feel so FREE in my creativity now and pursuing so many more dreams. I hope they realize how much this will affect the number of people who will decide that those expectations are too much. Just like they realized how changing catalogs every 6 months was hard on small time demos. I always believed that they cared about their demos, but I really find myself wondering anymore. I'm so sorry with how this has affected you and your blog. I just recently stumbled upon these fun color challenges and am looking forward to playing along. I'll do it just for the challenge though and not the prizes. Good luck through your adjustment. WOW! Sorry for the venting. I guess it shows how I'm ready to move on from SU for good now.

I agree, this one is a hard one to take. You could probably get away with giving out the prizes without posting a picture and just calling them markers instead of Copics. But, that is no fun. I use my Cricut a lot for my videos, but now I'm just going to have to call it my die cutting machine? I don't think I like the new rules either, it makes a lot of things very difficult.

I'm so sorry to hear about this!!! While I have been a huge fan of SU (never a seller for them), I have also become a big fan of other stamp products, too. Saddly this will a big change for everyone like me, as well.

sigh- I am thinking seriously about becoming a SU demonstrator because I thought using my blog would help me (and others who are just starting card making). I'm glad you posted these rules because now I have to decide how to pursue this challenge (SU Demonstrator). I still think your site rocks! I love the excitement you carry in the blogs! It makes for a wonderful world in scrapping & cardmaking!

Mona L. Pendleton said...

That is ridiculous! SU should provide your blog winnings since you are EXCLUSIVELY advertising their product for free! Why bother? Why not just order through someone else?

My first thought was of YOU Sam when I heard this....for me it's easy, I have to quit SU and I'm still on the fence...but just bout To hop off it because I'm more of a hobby demo. I too was very upset and even disappointed but understand their decisions (kinda was waiting for it to really come down hard on blogs). Ugh! Good luck to you though!
